How cancellations work for reservations

  • Free cancellation for 24 hours, as long as the guest cancels at least 30 days before check-in (time shown in the confirmation email)
  • After that, guests can cancel up to 14 days before check-in and get a 50% refund of the nightly rate, plus the cleaning & pet fees, but not the service fee (if applicable).

How Refunds work for reservations

The amount of your refund depends on your reservation’s cancellation policy and when you cancel. You can find the refund amount and cancellation policy specific to your reservation on the listings additional details page.

  • For a full refund of the nightly rate minus the 5% service fee, guest's must cancel at least 30 full days before the listings local check-in time (shown in the confirmation email). The cleaning fee, pet fees and any guest services and equipment rentals will fully be refunded.
  • For a 50% refund of the nightly rate, the guest must cancel at least 14 full days before the listing's local check-in time (shown in the confirmation email), otherwise no refund. The cleaning fee, pet fees and baby gear rentals will all be fully refunded.
  • If a guest cancels less than 14 full days in advance of check-in time, all nightly rates and pet fees are non-refundable. The cleaning fee is fully refundable.

Most refunds arrive within 10 days, but for some payment methods and regions, it might take longer.

We send your refund on the day your reservation is canceled. Once we send it, the refund is on its way, and your payment provider (for example, your bank or credit card issuer) will have the most up-to-date info about when funds will arrive.

Here are estimates of when you can expect to see a refund—it all depends on how you paid and where you live:

  • Major credit cards, including prepaid credit and debit cards: 5-15 business days.
  • Apple Pay, Google Pay & PayPal: Within 24 hours

Long-Term Stay Cancellations

  • Automatically applied to reservations of 28 nights or more
  • Reservations are fully refundable, minus the 5% service fee, for 24 hours after the booking is confirmed, as long as the cancellation occurs at least 30 days before check-in. (local time at rental location)
  • More than 24 hours after booking, guests can cancel before check-in (local time at rental location) and get a full refund, minus the first 30 days and the service fee (if applicable).

The cleaning fee is refunded anytime a guest cancels before check-in time.

Do I get a refund of any pet fees?

All pet fees are refunded anytime a guest cancels 14 days or more before check-in time.

Can I get a refund if the listing isn’t what was expected?

We’ll help any guest find a new place to stay or issue a refund if the listing is inaccessible, unclean, or unsafe.

Can I get a full refund if you can’t or won’t fix an issue?

Guests should contact us immediately but at least within 24 hours of finding any issue. In qualifying cases, we will cancel a reservation and issue a refund.

What if I need to cancel because of an emergency?

We strongly encourage all guests to purchase 3rd party travel insurance that meets your various needs and financial concerns.  In some instances, we may issue a full or partial refund at our sole discretion, on a case by case basis.

How long does it take to get a refund?

We send refunds immediately upon cancellation and they usually show up within 3-5 days, but sometimes it takes as long as 15 days before they reflect on the original payment method. In some countries, such as Brazil and India, it can take up to 2 months for the refund to arrive.

How do changes and cancellations work for long-term reservations?

If a reservation is for 28 nights or more, the long-term cancellation policy applies. If a guest changes or cancels a long-term reservation:

Their first payment might be non-refundable, depending on the listing and when the reservation is made.

If canceled after the stay has started, the remaining nights in their reservation are non-refundable. If you have more than 30 nights left in your reservation, only the next 30 nights are non-refundable.
